Latest Fishing Report

4.6.25

When the weather lets us get out, and the conditions are good, there has been some good fihsing around the traps.

Surfcasting - Moki and snapper have been getting caught from point halswell to scorching bay with a few snaps and trevs around seatoune as well.

Kahawai have been increasing in numbers around evans bay, seatoune and on the south coast. There's also been a few kingis around witrh one caught in lambton harbour and a massive 28kg speared recently around Red rocks/Karori.

A few decent snapper have been turning up at Tehoro for beach fishos and also in palliser bay (when its been fishable).

Theres been a few decent squid getting caught around the wharves as well.

While I write this there are 3-4mtr swells forcast for the south and west coast so its Harbour only at the moment.

Boatfishing - Its puka season! They are in peak condition prior to spawning in august/sept. There also seems to be a few more around these days and coming in a bit shallower occasionally (60-100mtrs).

good reports form Turakerei, karori, ohau and fishermans rock.

Snapper are still around in good numbers with more chunky (3-5kg) fish around. sometimes 15-20mtrs and sometimes deeper right down to 100mtrs as well depending on the day.

A couple of bluefin tuna have been caught off Cape Palliser/tora by recreational fishos recently so thats aways on the cards through winter when the weathers good.

Ive heard we may have a warmer winter this year, with hopefully less wind as well. We'll take it!

Winter fishing in Wellington is productive for multiple species.
